🖍️ How to Make Coloring Fun for Toddlers

Simple, practical tips to help toddlers and preschoolers enjoy coloring — from choosing easy pages to keeping it stress-free.

Start simple

Toddlers do best with big, bold shapes and lots of open space. Busy, detailed pages can feel overwhelming, so look for simple pictures with thick outlines — a single friendly animal, a piece of fruit, or a large letter.

Our Preschool Learning pages (alphabet and numbers) and animal pages are great first coloring pages for ages 2–4.

Keep it pressure-free

There is no right way to color. If your toddler scribbles outside the lines or colors the sky green, that is perfectly fine — the goal is fun and confidence, not a perfect picture.

Sit and color alongside them. Toddlers love to copy grown-ups, and your presence makes it a shared, happy activity.

Try online coloring

On a phone or tablet, tap-to-color removes the mess and the frustration of a crayon that won't cooperate. Many of our pages can be colored online, by number, or even turned into a connect-the-dots activity.

Switching between printing and online coloring keeps things fresh and holds a short attention span a little longer.

Make it a routine

A few minutes of coloring after lunch or before bed becomes a calming ritual toddlers look forward to. Keep a small folder of printed pages ready to go, and rotate the themes so there is always something new.
